“Give from the Heart” Hits the Air Waves in February 2010
Gerald E. Skully, Executive Director
12/15/09 --

United Way of Greated Lorain County, in collaboration with WOBL/WDLW radio, is hosting the first "Give from the Heart" Radiothon campaign beginning February 8 and running through February 14. The goal for the campaign is to raise $20,000 to continue funding programs that make a significant impact in the Lorain County community and make a difference for those in need.

For 12 hours each day during the week – from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. – the community will have the opportunity to donate by phone or through the United Way of Greater Lorain County website at www.loraincountyunitedway.org. In addition, the station will broadcast live from select remote locations during the week.

This is something new for us,” says Jerry Skully, Executive Director of United Way of Greater Lorain County. “The Radiothon gives us the opportunity to provide the community an “up close and personal” look at both our organization and the good that we do through the interviews, client stories and conversations that will air during the week. This information will also explain the ways that donations – no matter what amount - support our efforts to help people in need. We are very excited about this chance to tell the United Way story.”

Added Doug Wilber, president, WOBL/WDLW, “United Way funded programs make a tremendous impact in Lorain County. The Radiothon gives the community a chance to donate on a variety of levels. We hope to inform and entertain them throughout the week as well.”

A “Give from the Heart” concert to benefit United Way is a highlight of the week’s activities. The concert, set for Saturday, February 13 at Stocker Arts Center, headlines Terry Lee Goffee – the Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute: Train of Love. Goffee’s amazing portrayal of Cash covers the 50-year career of an American music legend.

The concert features a special opening act – a group of talented Lorain County youngsters – G-FORCE, the Gendics Family Revue. The sisters gained national acclaim last summer on the hit television show “America’s Got Talent.”

Tickets for the concert, sponsored by Lorain County Community College, are on sale at the Stocker Box Office. Cost is $20/ticket.

For additional information on the concert or sponsoring a segment of the Radiothon, contact the Stocker Center Box Office at 800.995.5222, ext 4040 (concert) or WOBL radio at 440.774.1320 (sponsorship).
