What does the agency do:
The mission of the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio is to gather and provide resources to hunger-relief organizations serving individuals and families in Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain counties.
Fast Facts:
- In 2004 the Food Bank distributed nearly 3 million pounds of food.
- 14.7% of those living in Lorain County live at or below the poverty level.
- Each day 486 people seek help at a Lorain County food pantry.
- Each day 500 meals are served at soup kitchen and shelters in Lorain County.
- Second Harvest was founded in 1982.
- Distributed food and grocery products to more than 120 qualified hunger-relief agencies.
- The largest hunger-relief organization in our region.
- An affiliate of America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network.
- In 2005 United Way allocation totaled $58,800.
