El Centro’s Representative Payee Program Stewards Makes Consumer Happy!
"Oh boy, Oh boy!!! I love Elaine and El Centro for all they do for me." "They make sure all my bills are paid and that I don’t get shut-off." "I’m happy I have extra money to buy some furniture for my new apartment!" "You got it going-on!" Says Isaac, a consumer of the Money Management/Representative Payee program at El Centro.
Isaac was overjoyed when he found out that because of his outstanding credit rating he didn’t have to pay a $350.00 rental deposit for his new apartment and could move in right away! Isaac attributes that accomplishment to the program.

Isaac has been a consumer of the Money Management program for three years. The program is designed to provide a representative payee to individuals suffering from severe mental illness who are unable to manage their financial affairs. A representative payee works with the consumer to create monthly financial budgets that will assure that all basic needs are met.
Elaine, who is one of three Money Management Caseworkers, pictured above with Isaac, has been working with him to provide quality financial care for three years. Luz, who is the Money Management accountant, makes sure that all checks and correspondence are mailed on time so that the consumer will have as little stress as possible concerning their finances.
El Centro’s Money Management caseworkers average 60 cases, per worker. Caseworkers focus their job on advocating for consumers and following up with financial responsibilities. Program activities include: advocacy; case management; supportive and accounting services.
This program is currently being funded by the Lorain County Board of Mental Health and the United Way of Greater Lorain County.
