United Way employees dish out holiday cheer

This year, United Way employees went to the heart of what matters and helped serve a holiday meal at the Catholic Charities Family Center in Lorain on December 9. The employees organized a holiday party at Catholic Charities, a United Way agency, in place of a traditional holiday staff party.

"When you look around, you see a fair representation of the community," said Gerald Skully, executive director of the United Way of Greater Lorain County. "What better way to share our blessings than with those in need. This is a great opportunity for us to see where the community's dollars are going."

Clients of Catholic Charities were welcomed into the Holiday Celebration by students from Holy Trinity in Avon who passed out bags filled with travel size personal items. Students from Elyria Catholic were also on hand to sing Holiday carols and spread seasonal cheer. BJ's Wholesale Club in Avon donated a sheet cake which was enjoyed by all the guests.

Catholic Charities Family Center, a United Way agency, is located on Eighth Street in Lorain. The center provides daily hot meals and over a dozen other services throughout the week.
