Partner Agency - A Story of Success

An elderly lady has lived over 20 years in a nursing home estranged from her family who live out of state has been matched with a volunteer guardian to help make medical decisions and advocate for quality of care each day. Another elderly lady who has no family becomes very ill. Her volunteer guardian, Judy, asks the nursing staff, "Please call me day or night, I don't want Dorothy to die alone." Judy was called two week later as Dorothy's condition drastically declined. Judy sat with Dorothy for hours in the middle of the night praying and holding her hand until she peacefully passed away.

These are just two examples of how volunteer guardians, like Judy, are needed to act and make decisions when no one else will. Judy has been avolunteer guardian for five years. Recently, she was hnored as a 2007 Outstanding Senior Volunteer honorable mention winner from Medical Mutual of Ohio at their Statewide Outstanding Senior Volunteer Annual Awards luncheon in October. The award salutes senior volunteers like Judy who act in a selfless, caring manner and are committed to enhancing the quality of the lives of those around them.
