What's all the talk about Community Impact

Now more than ever, the state of our economy is causing many families to struggle to make ends meet. United Way certainly sees this every day. Unfortunately, more and more calls are from middle class families who never thought they would need help from others.

At the heart of United Way is the idea that nothing is more powerful than a community working together to address issues it cares about most.

When you make a contribution through the United Way of Greater Lorain County’s “Community Impact Fund” you move beyond the surface of community problems to tackle the underlying needs of our neighborhoods.

Over the past year, United Way of Greater Lorain County reached out and listened extensively to key community stakeholders including community leaders, partner and non-partner agencies, funders and community volunteers in order to help us define the human care needs of our community and to establish a framework that defines how United Way of Greater Lorain County will strategically invest resources to achieve the greatest impact. Through a series of one-on-one interview, focus groups, facilitated discussions and presentations, over 100 individuals were asked for input in defining our community’s needs and United Way’s new focus.

In the months ahead, United Way will focus on Community Impact. United Way is in the business to improve people’s lives. That’s the bottom line. There is so much positive work being done that is paving the way for our successful transformation to community impact. We are excited about our current partnerships and look forward to building new ones as we continue to define how we will focus our efforts for the greatest good. The result will be a stronger, more vital community for all of us.

Be sure to look at July’s e-newsletter as we will unveil our “Community Impact Report”.
