What does the agency do: The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body. YMCA's are a national nonprofit organization committed to providing high quality, affordable childcare and other services to families in the community. In 2004-2005, The Vermilion Family YMCA's childcare program served over 150 youth ages 18 months through 7th grade. The Center also implements a childhood obesity prevention program. "Kids in Motion," is a high-energy group fitness class for school age children and a self-directed fitness challenge for each youth. In addition, the Vermilion Family YMCA also offers events and programs to strengthen families. Parenting classes, in conjunction with BayShore Counseling, are available as well as other events including Breakfast with Santa, Halloween Fun Fair, and the Mothers and Fathers luncheon. These events reach over 200 families and go on throughout the year. They give families a positive, caring environment to share valuable time together.
