Agency Success Story…

Having three special needs children is often a challenge. Finding appropriate services locally for all three is even more of a challenge. Fortunately, the Children’s Developmental Center in Amherst is able to provide services for all of them.

This is a remarkable feat considering the diverse needs of my children. My 10-year old with Aperger’s (“high functioning autism”) attends social skills camp (offered through the speech-language pathology department) to learn how to interact appropriately in social settings. She has learned more from her camp than from any of the previous camps in which she has participated. My 9-year old with childhood aphasia (language disorder) is able to receive one-on-one therapy with a speech language pathologist at the center. His word finding skills and verbal expression continue to improve. My 6-year old with severe developmental delays works with both a speech language pathologist and an occupational therapist to help him catch up to where he should be. He also participated in a summer language camp that helped address all of his special needs. The Children’s Developmental Center has been a tremendous resource for our family. The staff at the Center are remarkable. They are professional, well trained and extremely caring individuals. I know my children have benefited considerably from the services provided at the Children’s Developmental Center.
