What Does United Way Do

Student Fund Distribution Committee | Student Initiative Participation Form | 2003 Student Awards of Distinction | How to Get Involved? | Starting a School Campaign | Student News

The purpose of the Student Initiative Program is to:

  • Encourage the youth in our community to become aware of their responsibilities and capabilities to help others
  • Help the youth understand the importance of giving back to their community
  • Give young people the opportunity to learn about the value of the United Way and the programs at its partner agencies

Benefits

The Student Initiative Program offers students the opportunity to learn about:

  • United Way
  • Teamwork
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Decision-making
  • See first hand the programs that benefit youth, their families and friends

Overview

  • Students are invited to participate in our annual DAY OF CARING held on the second Friday in September. Students will have the opportunity to help others by volunteering their time and talents on a variety of projects and activities
  • Students ranging from elementary through high school have the opportunity to plan and coordinate special student initiatives in raising funds within their particular school
  • Students from the participating middle schools and high schools will then have the opportunity to participate in the Youth Fund Distribution process in the spring. This will ensure that each school is represented fairly
  • Students take full ownership on where their money goes. All money raised by the students will also be allocated by a panel of students and will go to programs of their choice at United Way partner agencies
